There’s no party like a fiesta!
This year’s Family Day, Juan Big Fiesta, sought to capture the heart and soul of Filipino culture. Inspired by the traditional fiesta, the event was a vibrant celebration of family, laughter, and community that brought employees and their loved ones together for a day of pure delight.
Fiesta Fun for the Whole Family
The event grounds were transformed into a carnival of excitement, with booths and attractions spread across every corner. Staff Domain employees and their families were welcomed with a photobooth to capture their brightest smiles. A face painting station turned kids into superheroes, fairies, and animals for the day. For the competitive few who wanted to put their reflexes to the test, the catch stick game was the booth to be in, with players standing in wait to attempt to catch the full set of randomly dropping batons.
Other activities required more dedication to movement, such as the inflatable playground that had kids bounding, hopping, and barely using up their energy reserves while parents and guardians crawled after them. When they weren’t wrestling each other in the inflatable sumo suits or diving into the ball pit, players of all ages lined up at the human claw machine for a chance to scoop their chosen treats, toys, and trinkets with every limb they had, in a hilarious twist on the classic arcade game.
Overall, each booth offered a different kind of fun, but whether guests were playing, watching, or cheering from the sidelines, the event was bursting with contagious excitement.
Playtime, Pinoy Style
Juan Big Fiesta’s main charm was in how it celebrated the simple pleasures of growing up in the Philippines. The games stayed true to the theme, making them fondly familiar and bringing a rush of childhood nostalgia to some, while providing delightful entertainment for those playing them for the first time.
There was kadang-kadang, the coconut walk race where players stepped onto coconut shells, secured them to their feet, and clip-clopped to the finish line with their new organic footwear demanding balance and coordination. The classic sack race tested agility and determination, while the ever-popular Pinoy Henyo had everyone yelling out clues and bubbling with laughter as the teams guessed the assigned words under pressure, all a welcome break from the usual view of screens and schedules.
Showcasing Filipino Talent
Adding rhythm and culture to the festivities were live performances that honoured Filipino artistry and pride. Talented vocalists Harold Avila and Victory Nard Gabelo opened the lineup with their catchy solos, wrapping up their segment with a power duet that rightfully earned them applause.
Representing the dance arts, the Earist Dancers quickly followed suit, wowing the crowd with a traditional tinikling performance. In this graceful yet high-energy dance, performers nimbly stepped between clashing bamboo poles in perfect time to the upbeat music, skipping and dodging their way into the hearts of the audience.
Flavours of the Fiesta
Of course, no Filipino fiesta would be complete without food, and Juan Big Fiesta delivered an irresistible roster of selections that had everyone coming back for seconds. The aroma of freshly cooked popcorn and tusok-tusok favourites of fishball, squidballs, and kikiam filled the air, a long line leading to each booth marking their appeal.
For cold, sweet treats to beat the heat, guests eagerly dropped by the cart for some ice cream and refreshing drinks like gulaman, buko pandan, and buko juice.
A Festive Halloween Twist
With Halloween just around the corner, Staff Domain celebrated the spooky holiday tradition with a costume competition for the attendees. The adults were given instructions to showcase Filipino fashion to line up with the event’s local theme, with the contenders walking on stage to stun the audience with a mix of modern and traditional outfits. The kids, on the other hand, were given free rein to dress as they wanted, from well-known pop-culture icons to famous characters from the big screen.
